Why not ride waves of the Shubenacadie River at a hillside retreat and adventure park that features one of the most remarkable wonders in Eastern Canada? The Shubenacadie Tidal Bore!

Here every 12 hours, tons of water from the Bay of Fundy tides collide with the river, producing a ‘bore’ which can be as small as a rolling wave or crest to heights of 12 feet! In addition, the tidal bore can reach speeds of 12 kilometers an hour and can be heard well before it is seen. Bore, by the way, comes from the Old Norse word 'bara' meaning a wave or swell.

Tidal Bore Rafting on the Shubenacdie River is a thrilling yet safe adventure. Rafting tours are scheduled to coincide with the ‘high tide’ times on the river, so there are usually two departures a day; and depending on the various phases of the moon, there are regular, high and extreme tides during any given month. The extreme tides have proven to be the most popular as they produce the largest waves. The fall is best time of the year for the extreme tides, and the explosion of fall foliage along the river bank only enhances the overall experience.

An approved floatation device, safety instruction, hot showers, extra footwear (if needed) and yellow rain gear are all provided with every adventure. Add a little mud sliding with a friend or colleague and you have the recipe for an exciting two or four hour tour on the water.
